National Water Hygiene Scheme

Duration and Venue

This is a half day theoretical course delivered at the client’s premises.

Content

This is an essential course for all water company or contracted staff who work in Restricted Operations on Water Treatment Works or on the Water Distribution Network. The course leads to registration with Energy & Utility Skills (The Sector Skills Council for Water, Gas, Electric and Waste Management in the UK). The registration and subsequent qualification is accepted by all Water Companies throughout the UK. Registration and accreditation is valid for three years after which a complete refresher course must be attended to renew accreditation. The modules include: Why is Water important, Waterborne Sources of disease and contamination, The role of the regulators DWI/DWQR in Scotland, Restricted Operations, Personal Responsibilities, Working environment and equipment, Disinfection and chlorination procedures, Sampling and audits.

Assessment and Certification

A randomised multi-choice question paper is used to determine assessment outcomes at the end of the course. In line with Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) procedures the questions will be read out by the trainers along with the four possible answers. This method overcomes literacy problems and ensures access to fair assessment.
